Advantages of CVOR Training

For most drivers in the trucking industry, obtaining their Commercial Vehicle Operator’s (CVOR) certificate is a must.

You will require a CVOR Certificate in order to do any of the following:

  • Drive a truck that has a gross weight or registered gross weight of more than 4500kg.
  • Busses that can seat 10 or more passengers.
  • Tow trucks – regardless of their gross weight.

Why you need to get CVOR training

In order to obtain your CVOR certificate, you will need to fill out an application, pay a fee to the Ministry of Transportation and pass a CVOR written test. Completing CVOR training not only helps to ensure that you are able to successfully pass the test, but it also helps you gain valuable knowledge that will make you a safer and better driver in your trucking career.

Other advantages of CVOR training

If you are looking for a rewarding and well-paying career, becoming a commercial truck driver is worth considering. It is a career that is well-suited for those who like to work independently and who would enjoy (and getting paid to) see different parts of Canada and the United States.

And if you are not into long-haul trips? Don’t worry, there are plenty of short-haul positions available as well that will allow you to sleep in your own bed at night.

In Ontario, there is currently a shortage of truck divers which means once you obtain your CVOR certificate, you are practically guaranteed to get a job. Whether trucking is your first, second, or even your third career, it is one that offers very good job security.

In fact, truck drivers are considered an essential service. When Ontario went into lockdown in March 2020 because of the coronavirus, truck drivers were still working and earning a paycheck.

Opportunities for advancement

As a commercial truck driver with a CVOR certificate, you’ve got opportunities for advancement. Upgrading your training so you can carry oversize loads or hazardous materials will mean you’ll have more job opportunities and be able to earn more as well. But it all starts with that CVOR certificate.
