What is the need for doing a Pre-trip inspection for Your Vehicle

Jerit Justin • March 14, 2022

Every truck driver must undertake a pre-trip inspection. Having said that, most truck drivers ignore inspecting their vehicle every time they hit the road. One of the main reasons is to make sure every part of the truck is operating smoothly. Failure to conduct a pre-trip inspection can not only take your truck off the road but also cost a lot of money. Below-mentioned is reasons why it is critical to carry out a pre-trip inspection for your vehicle:

1. It keeps you and others around you safe and secure

The most important reason for a truck driver to carry out the inspection is to ensure their safety on the road. Going on the road where the brakes are damaged or the load is not secured properly can lead to dangerous implications. Make sure you take at least 30 minutes to inspect the vehicle before you set out on your journey.

2. It is mandatory under the law

As a truck driver, it is mandatory under law to ensure your vehicle is free from any malfunctions or defects, and is safe to drive and operate. If you come across an issue, you will need to undertake a complete comprehensive driver vehicle inspection report to avoid any penalties during an audit.

3. Keeps you on the road, most importantly

Various ways of not undertaking a pre-trip inspection can keep you off the road. First and foremost, if the DOT identifies something wrong with your truck, you can receive a violation, and it can put your vehicle out of service until the issue is fixed. Additionally, if you come across a minor issue for a long time, it can eventually lead to a major costly problem. So, try to fix the issue as quickly as possible. In the event, your truck gets damaged in an accident, it can keep it from operating for an extended period, which will hurt your business as well.

4. Saves you a lot of money

As mentioned above, conducting a pre-trip inspection can identify minor issues that can help stop it from becoming a serious issue. It is more likely that minor issues with your vehicle will be far less expensive than major repairs. You will also avoid losing money while your truck is getting fixed as you have identified the issue early. Additionally, it also reduces liability if your truck has been involved in a serious accident. Another major reason to carry out a pre-inspection for your vehicle.
