Proper vehicle maintenance is not only key to keeping fleet vehicles running at their best, but it is also required by law and a critical component of being an owner/operator or managing a fleet. As such, it should come as no surprise, that you must maintain proper records of your vehicle maintenance.

Both the MTO and FMCSA have their own rules concerning what records you must keep and how long you must keep them. Sometimes the regulations can be confusing, but failing to comply could mean facing big fines. With Trukademy’s Maintenance Files Training Course, you will get the education you need to properly keep your maintenance records and understand the regulations concerning keeping them.

What will be covered in the course?

Any vehicle that has been in your company’s possession for more than 30 days, must have maintenance files to accompany it. Maintenance files include standard information such as:

  • Identifying information about the vehicle such as make, year, serial number, and tire size.
  • Record of who owns the vehicle.
  • Record of any inspections, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Schedule of upcoming inspections and maintenance.
You will learn what forms of documents are acceptable as well as the requirements that are specific to electronic records.

Who will benefit from this course?

If you are a new or aspiring driver, or if you are in charge of a fleet, understanding how to create and keep maintenance files will be an important part of your job. Trukademy’s course is designed to help teach you best practices to help keep your business running smoothly and avoid compliance issues. Remember, if you are the subject of an audit or investigation, it is important that your files are complete and well-organized so that you can find them quickly at all times.
