Why Take the MELT Program?

Jerit Justin • September 10, 2020

Taking the MELT Program is one of your first steps in your journey to beginning your career in the trucking industry. MELT stands for Mandatory Entry Level Training, and it order to test for your class A license in Ontario, you must have completed the MELT Program.

Here are just a few of the reasons why you should consider taking the MELT Program.

It will give you a firm foundation on which to build your truck driving training.

One of the primary reasons that Ontario and other provinces adopted the MELT Program was the rise of so-called trucking schools that did not provide adequate training to their students. This led to many students who were either unable to pass their license test – or worse – who did pass it but were unsafe drivers.

The minimum standards set out by the provincial governments not only helped to keep truck drivers safe but also everyone else on the road.

Taking the MELT Program will help you become job ready.

Although the demand for qualified truck drivers in Ontario is high, some students may not feel ready to join the trucking industry at first. Taking the MELT Program not only helps students prepare and feel more confident to take on their first real jobs as truckers, but it also gives employers confidence in hiring them know that they have gained the essential skills for the job.
